curatedalbums880With “Curated Albums,” revisit your body of scrapbooking work and pick out the very best pages and page combinations to tell overarching stories that compel you. This isn’t about re-ordering your current scrapbook albums. This isn’t about making new theme albums. This is about identifying recurring themes and compelling storylines in your past work, excerpting what you already have, filling in where needed, and making easy-to-hold and replicate personal story books.

Picture a stack of manageable, story-focused albums on your coffee table that show the very best of your scrapbook page storytelling.

See yourself giving the people you’ve been photographing for years an album that doesn’t just show them doing activities, but, rather, that taps into who they are and presents that evidence in loving detail.

Find your family’s favorite stories and conversations collected in an easy-to-hold album that will have everyone crowded around to get a look. And when they ask for their own copy, you’ll have it waiting or be able to get them one efficiently and affordably.

Discover yourself excited about the big cache of ideas for curated albums you’ll generate, a cache that will have you approaching the craft of scrapbooking with enthusiasm and a new appreciation for the stories that resonate most.

Curated Albums: an online class with Debbie Hodge

Join me, Debbie Hodge, for four weeks starting November 4th. I’ve got hundreds of paper and digital scrapbook pages in a variety of albums that fill several linear feet of shelf-space. This fall I am immersed in revisiting all those pages, finding the story threads I care about and making curated albums. These albums will contain pages that were originally made in both paper and digital formats. I will unify the pages using bound photobooks and albums that I construct, making covers, contents pages, dividers, and fillers that create story flow and add design appeal.

Come see every step of the process and make your own curated albums alongside me. Private forum and gallery as well as weekly office hours (with recordings) give you a chance to share what you’re working on and get questions answered.

The Curated Albums class includes:

  • Video and written lessons each week
  • One dozen curated album ideas
  • Four curated album story arcs
  • Design ideas for physical album, covers, dividers, and table of contents options
  • Print-, cut-, and digital-design files for curated album storytelling
  • Curation process walkthroughs including brainstorming ideas and digitizing paper pages with photography, scan-and-stitch, and send-out services

The Curated Albums class schedule is as follows:

The written and video lessons are made available on Tuesday mornings for 4 weeks. You access them at your convenience and then share in a private forum and gallery where your classmates respond at their convenience. You do not need to be anywhere at any specific time.

The office hours sessions are live and scheduled at several different hours. You can post your questions and links in the forum and gallery ahead of time if you cannot attend. A video recording of the office hours and chat log will be posted in your classroom area with 24 hours.

  For digital and paper scrapbookers

This class is designed for both paper and digital scrapbookers.

The primary goal of making “curated albums” is to tell rich and overarching stories by aggregating your pages over time.

A secondary goal is to make albums you can share. That means you’ll need copies of paper pages. This class covers the work of creating digital versions of your paper pages (with photography, scanning, and service options) and coming up with efficient and affordable album production possibilities.

The curated albums I make for the lessons in this class will include a combination of paper and digital pages I have made over the last twenty years.

  It’s happening

I’ve pulled out all of my paper and digital albums and set up my work space for this project — it’s an area near my kitchen so that I can merge my work with taking care of my family and hanging out with them in the evenings. Check it out! I’ve even got the recording equipment set up for the process videos.

Click the button below and get in on this exciting process with me. You’ll come out the other side–just in time for the holidays–with albums to share both on your coffee table and all wrapped up with a bow for giving.
